The basis of a fire is kindling, so it's essential that you're using a good quality product. Kindling is split extra-thin, so it's much easier to light than logs and once your fire is lit, it contributes to keeping the fire going. 

For best results, we recommend stacking the kindling in criss-crossed, horizontal, flat layers before placing your logs on top.
